Waking up was an adventure. Sometime in the middle of the night, the shirt I had hung up on the drying line fell off. So if the Ranger tells you that the critters love the salt in your clothing, I can contest that information. My lovely blue Smartwool shirt has several tiny holes in it from where a marmot decided to feast.
As we packed up and got ready to head out for the day, there stood a 400 ft elevation gain in front of us. I was not looking forward to the hill climb right of the bat. But I just had to suck it up and roll with it once again. Today’s hike took us from Marion Lake up to Fox Creek Pass. Eventually, through Death Canyon Shelf, we spent the night at Sunset Lake to Sheep’s Step to the Alaska Basin. As we sat on top of the other side of the lake, it was such a serial site looking down. As the sun did set and we dozed off for the night until around 3:40 am. When I felt some tiny drops of water on my face thinking it was dew. I finally decided to wake up the others just about when we got the rain fly on the bottom fell out. As we checked the Garmin for the weather in the morning, we decided to delay our start until 9:00 am.
